How much does floor tile installation cost?
Square footage sets the base, then the pattern, the tile format and the condition of the subfloor move it. A straight-lay porcelain floor on a sound subfloor is the low end; a patterned floor over a slab that needs flattening is the high end. We measure and put it in writing at no cost.
Do you remove the old floor?
Yes. And we look at what is under it, because tiling over a floor that moves is the most common reason a tile floor cracks a year later.
What is lippage, and how do you avoid it?
Lippage is when one tile edge sits higher than the one next to it. It comes from an uneven substrate or rushed setting. We flatten the floor first and use leveling clips on formats that need them.
How long before I can walk on it?
Usually 24 hours after grouting for light foot traffic, longer for heavy furniture. We tell you the exact window before we leave.
Can you install large-format tile over my existing floor?
Sometimes — it depends on how flat and how solid the existing floor is. Large format is the least forgiving format there is, so we check with a straightedge and tell you honestly rather than find out halfway through.
